7 Exercises You Can Do Right In Your Chair!

Most workers today do not get enough exercise. They spend long hours hunkered over their desks, working incessantly on their computers. In no time they’ll feel the pain of being seated almost immobile for so long.

Stay fitter and stronger with these exercises that you can do without leaving your chair. These will help you tone your body, lift your spirit, keep you awake and let blood circulation to flow normally.


  1. Stretch to relieve muscle tenseness especially on your shoulders and back. Touch your ear to your shoulder, hold it for at least five seconds and do the same on the other side to stretch your neck.
  1. Sit up straight and stretch your arms toward the back of your chair. Imagine that you are holding a pencil between the shoulder blades to open your chest.
  1. Increase your lower body strength. Seat up straight and stretch one of your legs under your desk for two seconds before raising it as far up as you can and hold for 15 counts. Repeat with the other leg and do as many as you can throughout the day.
  1. Release the tension from your glutes and hips by placing your ankle over the opposite knee. Lean forward as you gently press your knee down with your forearm and hold for 5 seconds. Repeat with the other leg.
  1. Release the tension in your spine with a twist. Sit across your chair while you keep your feet parallel on the floor. Hold the back of your chair, one hand on each side. Sit up straight and twist your body so you’re facing your chair’s back. Hold for five ticks before changing sides.
  1. Tone your inner thighs, glutes and triceps by sitting forward on your chair. Place your hands close to your hips, elbows bent. Squeeze your knees and butt cheeks close together as you push your hands down on the chair, straightening your elbows. Do 30 quick reps.
  1. Crunch your abs all day, by pulling in your stomach muscles .Hold for 5 ticks and release. Do as many as you can.
